Now that summer is over you may be thinking that you are stuck with designing winter shoes that aren’t so much fun as colors are more muted and there aren’t as many style options in general for pumps as there are for sandals. Well, that’s not the case! Yes, the colors you want for winter shoes aren’t as varied as those on summer shoes, there is a lot of focus on black shoes, brown shoes, navy shoes and grey shoes (though fortunately for us burgundy and olive green are also big this season.) But there are many ways to spice up your winter pumps and one of them is by adding different types of straps.
To start, thick ankle strap shoes and t-strap shoes are particularly on trend right now. They also give you more shoe “real estate” to play with so you can include different colors and textures in your design. And besides all of that good news, they are also more comfortable as they ensure your shoes stay comfortably on your feet no matter how far or fast you are walking, even with tights!
The t-strap has made a major comeback and and can be used to create a vintage or a more modern look depending on the types of materials and colors you choose. The Gaugin shoe below features green & orange floral fabric and coordinating olive green suede t-strap and heel. Without the t-strap, the shoe would look a lot more basic and like others out there. But the combination of suede and fabric as well as a pattern and solid color makes the shoe much more unique. Let’s face it, heels aren’t always so obvious, especially when the colors are similar, so adding the texture on the t-strap makes a big difference.
The other strap we are loving right now is the thick ankle strap, it’s so current and gives shoes a much sexier look. The Rendezvous shoe below is great because it’s a totally black shoe, but there is nothing boring about it. The black croc texture already makes the shoe special, and then we added the thick ankle strap and a pointed toe and ended up with this super stylish and sexy black shoe.
Another version of the ankle strap that looks great is the skinny ankle strap. If you are a bit sensitive about your ankles and don’t want to highlight them as much as the thick ankle strap does, but you still want to add a pop of color to the ankle area, the skinny ankle strap is a great option. The Gone Girl shoe is great for winter as it’s a neutral shoe that’s not black, brown or navy and the rose gold touches make the barely there leather feel richer and appropriate for Winter.
And last but certainly not least is the classic mary jane strap, always a good stand by if you want a shoe to be a bit more secure or give it a slightly different feel. You can use this strap on basically any shoe you create and it will look great, but we particularly like it with the new plaid shoes we introduced this Fall. By adding a t-strap to the Plaid About You shoe below, you achieve that “sexy school girl” look where without it, it would just be a cute plaid shoe.
There is no better time than now to design your perfect shoes with any sort of strap you like. Happy designing!
