Of course, we were among the nearly 3 million people who tuned in to watch The Royal Wedding. But while most stared excitedly at the TV screen for the first glimpse of her wedding dress, we waited with baited breath to get even a quick glance at her beautiful (we assumed) shoes. Unfortunately, we didn't even get a peek!
Finally, we get a good look at what adorned the feet of the future Queen of England on one of the biggest days of her life. Rather apropos, the shoes were created by chief Alexander McQueen designer, Sarah Burton. The duchesse satin pumps were covered with hand-made lace and embroidered by London's Royal School of Needlework. And while the 4.5 inch, round, closed toe shoes were lovely and very appropriate for the occasion, we can't help but be a little disappointed. We secretly hoped Kate would be a bit more creative with color and/or style rather than remain so traditional. However, given her understated taste in general, the Royals' penchant for tradition and being under a microscope for the whole world to criticize, we understand her erring on the safe side.
Now that Catherine is officially a style icon, we can't help but hope that she mixes it up in the future and gives us some really amazing shoes to look at!
