The Met Gala!

One of Fashion's most anticipated events of the year recently took place -- The Met Gala 2012! There was good, there was bad, there was crazy and there were shoes.  Here are some of the most notable with some Milk & Honey suggestions if you like the look but want to design your own shoes to make it your own!

Both Jenna Lyons and Lena Dunham (in a Wes Gordon dress) sported this season's pastel pointed pumps in pink - one of our favs!  Since no one asked us, we won't comment on Jenna Lyon's jean jacket style top paired with silk skirt. Oops, just did. Not a good look!

Here is a Milk & Honey take on the pastel pointed pump.

Lizzie Tisch made an interesting statement in a bow/garden/we don't know quite what dress. What we like most about it was that it gave a good view of her shoes unlike many of the long gowns. And those were some shoes! We wouldn't have wanted to run into her in a dark ally.

Both Carrie Mulligan and Jessica Biel sported closed toe, silk Prada pumps.  We don't know what is going on with Jessica's Biel's bangs but what we do know is she's lucky she had JT + humongo diamond engagement ring to distract from them. Plus some nice shoes of course.

Overall we noticed lots of silk shoes so here are a few ideas on how you can create your own shoes using many of the silk colors we offer. The first is a basic peep toe but looks really special in lily pink silk.

Lucky  is a particularly great style because it's minimal enough to go with most things but has enough presence to make an impact.

Belle of the Ball is one of our most popular styles and you can see why! We particularly love the ankle strap style on this one.

Florence Welch (in an Alexander McQueen dress) stood out in her silk shoes!

Chloe Sevigny made a statement per usual in a mirror or plastic or something dress and booties. She was the only one we saw who rocked booties and we appreciate the effort.

Here is a sneak peak of a glitter and velvet peep toe bootie that will be available in Milk & Honey's signature collection this fall, but of course you can create it in our shoes builder right now!

Add your own touch to today's trends now, design your own shoes!

Loafing Around

posted on Apr 23, 2012 1:04:18 AM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

Who said loafers are just for Fall anyway? While you traditionally expect to find them in darker colors such as our Classic Loafer  or chunky heel version -- Singing the Blues, you can easily Spring them up using pastels, nudes and bright colors. Below are some of our favorite Milk & Honey versions and as always, you can always design your own shoes.

The loafer below features sky blue, nude and camel leathers and fits right into this season's pastel trend.

This next loafer really stands out in various bright leathers including irish green, pretty in pink and ballet slippers pink.

You can also go for bright but with a more tone on tone approach if you like your shoes to stand out but not scream for attention! These adorable loafers were created in dark red leather, raspberry suede and raspberry beret patent leather.

If you prefer to take more of a subtle route, these nude patent, nude leather and champagne snakeskin loafers are the perfect choice.

You can wait for Fall to get your loafer on, but why not create your own shoes now using bright colors, pastels or nudes? Happy designing!

Malin Akerman - Designs for her favorite cause!

With a personal style that’s equal parts Hollywood glamour and rock ‘n roll, Malin Akerman always looks spectacular.  Her style is effortless and spontaneous.  Whether she’s dominating the villains in WATCHMEN or making us laugh in COUPLES RETREAT, Malin’s beauty and sense or humor are captivating.

When designing her owns shoes, she went through a bunch of different designs – even whipping out a sketch pad at a point! – before arriving to her perfect combination of pony hair Zebra with a heel of Royal Blue Suede.   The elegant black and white pattern is off-set by the fun choice of a pop of color in the back.

With a heart the size of Sweden, Malin selected the Somaly Mam Foundation as her charity of choice. The Somaly Mam Foundation was created to stop human trafficking and slavery around the world.  The foundation supports survivor rescue, shelter and rehabilitation programs globally with a special focus on Southeast Asia, where the trafficking of women and girls is a widespread practice. They also strive to give victims and survivors a voice in their lives and empower survivors as they create and sustain lives of dignity.

100% of the profits from the sale of Malin’s shoes will go directly to the Somaly Mam Foundation.   To learn more, please go to www.somaly.org.

Pretty in Pastel

One of our favorite trends this Spring is pastel – we love all of the Easter egg colors making a comeback.

The beautiful soft colors have popped up on shoes from Chanel, Dior, Lanvin, Stuart Weitzman and more.  Pinks, light blues, mints, lavenders, etc. look fresh for this season on pointed toes, mixed with metallics, whites and on platforms. Some of our favorite Milk & Honey styles are below and of course, you can always design your own shoes!

These X-Factor sandals with tear drop cut outs in yellow with metallic toe cap and heel are perfect for Spring. Yellow is one of our top choices as it doubles as a neutral (if you aren’t into matchy matchy which you shouldn't be!)

This Pretty in Pink shoe in  blush glitter fits the trend perfectly. You can’t get a prettier design than an open toe, big bow sling back shoe in delicate pink glitter.

We have another take on this lovely style sans wedge below in sky blue and white leather which gives them a fresh, clean look.

Another great wedge option is the below open toe in light green with a knot embellishment.

There really is no excuse not to be ready for the pretty pastel trend this season. Get designing!

Seeing Spots

Spring has sprung and next stop summer! While there are many amazing shoes out there for this summer season (including great styles from Milk & Honey as well as the option to design your own shoes.) Among our favorites are the brightly colored polka dot, striped and gingham fabric shoes. They are both retro and current, flirty and innocent. These are our top three MIlk & Honey pattern picks for the season:

The Dots Happening shoe is reminiscent of Mad Men with the classic red and white polka dot pattern topped off by the tried and true, yet still loved knot. One could easily imagine Betty Draper hanging up her ruffled apron to go out for a Gibson Martini in these evergreen peeps.

The Picnic shoe is an even more modern take on the known and loved polka dot peep toe shoe. It features navy blue with white polka dots for a more subtle approach until we get to the coordinating navy and white gingham knot. They are a perfect complement to this seasons focus on brightly colored shoes.

And another great combination is our Dots & Sripes shoe in green and white polka dots. With an open toe, white piping and green and white striped bow on the back, they are equally fashion forward and reminiscent of soda fountains and circle skirts.

With so many amazing shoes this season, we are looking forward to Summer (and creating our shoes now!) even more than usual! Picnics, pretty dresses and most importantly beautiful shoes, here we come!

Spring for Silver

posted on Mar 22, 2012 11:36:53 PM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

What girl doesn't like a little something shiny?!  We certainly do and that includes silver shoes so we love seeing the trend come back for Spring. They are sleek, modern and best of all go with everything!  Also, if you don't want to get too matchy matchy or like mint green shoes, they will come in especially handy this season for something to go with all of the pretty pastels out there.

These are some of our favorite Milk & Honey creations, but of course you can design your own shoes as always!

We love Strapped In because it mixes both gunmetal and serling silver for a more interesting, though still neutral look. These are also some of our favorite toe and ankle strap combinations!

Another great option is Don't Cross Me. They are one color (sterling) silver which makes them slightly more neutral, but the design on the front of the shoe is interesting enough to make them special and stand out.

We really love the Double Crossed small wedge because it's a really easy to wear height (2 inches) and the style of the straps makes them even more super comfortable. Perfect weekend wedge that goes with everything.

So what are you waiting for, summer is almost here?! Make sure you find yourself a pair (or two) of great silver shoes for the season or create your own shoes for the perfect pair!

Oscars: All That Glitters

posted on Feb 28, 2012 5:02:03 PM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

While the beautiful long dresses at the Oscars were... well... beautiful, they didn't allow us to see as much as we would have liked of the shoes! However, we squinted as much as we possibly could and looked further into the potential amazing shoes of we caught brief glimpses.  Overall, what we found was predominently shine/bling and a throwback to the matchy matchy of the 80s. In essence, nothing we don't love.

Let's start with JLo. The dress - not so much our taste, waldrobe malfunction or not. However, the shoes, love! Ivory Jimmy Choo's with scattered swarovski crystals.

Reminds of us of a pair of our most popular Milk & Honey shoes that you can order as is in our signature collection or design your own shoes in the same vein. They are called Firecracker and you can guess why!

Another blinged out star was Melissa McCarthy in Brian Atwood. Not only were her shoes amazing but they were designed especialy for her and inscribed "Exclusively made for my BFF Melissa McCarthy on Oscar night" by Atwood himself. Are we jealous? Ok, a little bit. It was tough to get a great picture at this point, but you get the idea.

Michelle Williams impressed yet again in both an amazing Louis Vuitton peplum and Christian Louboutin shoes. She went for a beatufiul orange color complimented by neutral shoes, but anything but boring given their major sparkle!

Gwenyth Paltrow certianly turned heads in her Tom Ford creation, though we aren't sure for all for the right reasons. The dress itself was amazing and showed how you can wow in white even when you aren't a bride. But the cape... hm, we aren't so sure. Her gold shoes, however, we the perfect compliment to the emsemble.

They remind of us of another popular pair of Milk & Honey's that you can also buy as they are or create your own shoes which are similar. They are called Sparkle, another self explanatory name!

Emma Stone wore a controversial Giambattista Valli gown. Controversial in the sense that Nicole Kidman wore the same one to the last Oscars (scandalous!) and many think she wore it better. We actually think she looked great and that it isn't a crime to wear the same dress as someone else at some point!  While her shoes were really beautiful and of course we love everything about the 80s, we aren't huge fans of the matchy matchy thing. Other than that - love!

Whether it's being like the stars you are after, just love a bit of bling or want to try the matchy thing, you've come to the right place!  Design your own shoes however you'd like them to be and get the perfect pair now!

New York Fashion Week: The Shoes

posted on Feb 22, 2012 10:27:47 PM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

As always, the shoes were the hightlight of New York Fashion Week for us so we wanted to share some of the trends the most beautiful for Fall 2012! The collections included tough-girl shilhouettes as well as new takes on the pump including classicaly feminie styles like the t-strap (carrying over from Spring 2012.) The color palettes focused on shades of burgandy, mustard and hunter green and the most popular textures (we LOVE textures!) were embossed croc, woven leather, velvet and fur.

We absolutely love the gold and white color combination on the Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung beauties below.  And the straps are really to die for, as is the textured platform

These red Louboutin stunners for Marchesa are truly special and unique. Not to mention, they coordinated perfectly with collection.

The Ralph Lauren boots below are clasically beautiful from the front but it's the amazing heels that make them really special from the back. Check out the details AND they managed to include bothe silver and gold. Metallic accents are something we'll definitely see more of for Fall. We are currently working on how to incorporate them into our shoes builder so you can design your own shoes with the shiny touches.

We really love the Donna Karen pumps below. The brown and black combination allow the shoes to match almost everything and the texture on the croc cap, counter deco, heel and ankle strap make the shoes so much more interesting

We've been a big fan of this sort of counter deco for a while now and you'll see a similar option in our shoe builder very shortly. Below is an example of a Milk & Honey shoe that we created to test the look.

Tory Burch showed a great take on the pointed toe, another big trend for Fall 2012, with lots of straps and a cap toe in tonal black and grey.

You've actually been able to create your own shoes  in a similar fashion for a while! Check our a Milk & Honey pointed, strappy shoe below.  Ours version is just  a bit less subtle...

Rodarte made their debut in footwear for Fall 2012 and true to form, they did something very unique. We aren't sure how wearable these boots are, but they are very cool and we do love the metallic accents on the heels.

Another trend for Fall is oxfords. Derek Lam certainly didn't take a low key approach with his gold metallic version below!

Michael Kors did a nice take on the classic t-strap by including buckles, embossed croc (still loving the texture) and a chunky wooden platform and heel.

We really love the burgandy velvet DVF boots with slim gold metallic cap toe below. They are so rich and lush, they have inspired us to add to our velvet offering for Fall so something else to look forward to!

We hope you enjoyed the preview of Fall 2012 shoes as much as we did and gained some early inspiration for your Fall wardrobe. It's never to early start planning you own custom creation.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend - Manolo Blahnik

posted on Feb 16, 2012 1:42:23 AM - filled under Thinking Fashion from Ilissa howard

Manolo Blahnik is the creme de la creme of footwear designers, having been praised for not jumping on trends, but creating classic styles that stand the test of time -- and starting trends himself! In celebration of Manolo Blahnik's 40 years of sketching beautiful shoes and having them hand crafted in London, he partnerned with Hong Kong's most esteemed department store, Lane Crawford (think Neiman Marcus) to re-release 10 of his iconic styles.

The shoes are beautifully presented (below) among Blahnik memorabilia. In order, the first pair, Pimenta, was first released in 1977 and inspired by chilli peppers, which were first brought to his native Spain by Christopher Columbus.

The next, called Piaggi, was introduced in 1977 and inspired by Italian fashion editor Anna Piaggi who is best knows for her contributions to Vogue Italia and her vast vashion collection.

The below pair is called Tuberose from 1981. They were inspired by the pop art movement and a painting of a garden in hell (must have been a nice garden!)

The fourth pair, the Rodrigo from 1988 is a classic desert boot was influenced by the shoes worn by the  British forces during the North African Western Campaign during World War II.  It was made in every color for designer Isaac Mizarahi.

The next pair, called Digo from 1993, was inspired by the 1961 British horror film, "The innocents." The film was based on the book The Turn of the Screw.

The below shoes, called Calder from 1993, are a modern rendering of Yves Saint Laurent's famous 1954 Piet Mondrian dress, which fused art and fashion. Both were modelled after Mondrian's use of lines, retangular forms and primary colors.

The next are called Okla from 1994, and were inspired by lumberjacks. The shoes were made famous by Jennifer Lopez who wore them in her "Jenny from the Block" music video.

The below boots reminiscent of Victorian lace up boots, called Bul from 2008, were created by Blahnik for British designer Christopher Kane to be shown with his Spring/Summer collection.

The ninth, called Terrier from 1982, was inspired by the Scottish tartan and the last, called Zipa from 2001, by Charles Dickens' series Little Dorrit. And if you fancy yourself a Manolo Blanik of sorts, of course you can just go ahead and design your own shoes!

While of course the shoes were the highlight of the exhibit, we were also given a peak into Manolo the man which was really interesting. Apparently he's into photography and only likes shopping for books, music and DVDs. Um, really?

Also included were pictures he took himself of his famous friends but most interesting pictures of a younger Manolo. Below first in his friend Paloma's apartment and second in London (before he was a success - there was a time?!) and um, hello hottie!!!!

So there you go, a 40 year celebration of Manolo Blahnik, well deserved! Beautiful shoes and apparently beautiful man (who knew!) And as always, we hope this has inspired you to take a shot at designing your own shoes. Even great designers like Manolo gathered inspiration from friends to artists to movies. Determine what drives you and get designing!

oFISHally Fancy! Katy Perry + Amato Couture

posted on Feb 10, 2012 1:55:00 AM - filled under Thinking Fashion from Ilissa howard

We are confident Amato Couture will amaze and captivate you the way it has us! While the ability to design your own shoes is certainly a luxury, imagine pairing it with a one-of-a-kind couture dress designed to fit your body perfectly? And not just any dress a truly phenomenal one? Well, that's exactly what Amato Couture does. And they do it so amazingly well not only do women in Dubai take advantage of their amazing abilities, fans and celebrities all over the world find a way to get their hands on these beautiful creations. Katy Perry is a big fan, having had Amato Couture design several unique outfits for her that only she could wear and they could create! In order below are the dresses she wore to the MTV Music Awards, the American Music Awards and on her One World Creation and 2011 California Dreamin' Tour.

No surprise the always unique Nicki Menaj also loves to design her own and wear Amato Couture (maybe there is some correlation with pink hair...hm.)  Below are some dresses she wore in an Elle Magazine photos photo shoot.

Other celebs who have stunned in Amato Couture are Shakira and J Lo among.  Shakira has worn the dresses to the Latin Grammy Awards, the FIFA Awards and many other events.  Jennifer Lopez at Summertime Ball 2011.

Amato Couture also worked with Heidi Klum to put together a fashion show featuring their dresses on the contestants of Germany's Next Top Model.

And while the dresses are beautiful and the celebrities look amazing in them, they would look better if they had designed their own shoes to match as well, don't you think? We especially think the ladies in Germany's Next Top model could have used our help. But there aren't many people we think couldn't benefit from designing their own shoes so we are the wrong people to ask!  We were lucky enough to see how some Milk & Honey shoes look with Amato dresses while we were in Dubai recently.  After seeing all of the dresses we had SO many ideas of spectacular shoes we could create to match them!

If this isn't inspiration to get going on your own creations, we don't know what is? See how creative you can be!

Neon Signs

posted on Feb 6, 2012 12:05:26 AM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

Color is in for Spring and in a BRIGHT way -- neon bright!  We are seeing bright colors pop up from most designers for Spring 2012 in clothes, handbags, shoes and accessories. As you can see below Chloe, DKNY, Blumarine and Dres Van Noten have incorporated fun, bright colors into their collections. You can mix them all together for a really current and Springy look or just add pops of color to your black uniform if you need to ease into it.

If you want to jump on the trend full force but are a little uncomfortable about it, consider a bright colored piece with a neutral color pattern like the Balenciaga dress below.

If you are really brave, go for the bright colors in monochrome and make a serious statement!

Throw on a pair of brightly colored jeans and take on the trend in a major way. Not only is color in but colored jeans in all sorts of fun hues will be huge for Spring. Tone the color down with a simple white t-shirt and silver sandals (yet another trend -- we are getting out of control here!) which are great because they match with everything.

And just in case you can't find the perfect silver/gunmetal shoes to wear with your brightly colored jeans, below are two pairs you can buy now from milk & honey, one casual mini wedge for day and one stunning heel for night.  OR design your own shoes as always!

But we digress... back to bright colors.  You can create your own shoes using one bright color like the yellow ones shown at the top, color block with differet bright colors, or even just add a brightly colored element such as piping to a neutral shoe.

However you choose to wear your bright colors this Spring, don't forget to design your own shoes to match!

Shiny SAG Awards

posted on Jan 31, 2012 4:26:47 AM - filled under Red Carpet from Ilissa howard

The 18th Annual SAG Awards may have been a more casual affair than events past, but that doesn't mean there was a shortage of beautiful shoes!  The most notable pairs  being by Guiuseppe Zanotti, Brian Atwood, Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, Casadei and Roger Vivier.  While celebrities do love their milk & honey shoes, we didn't get to see a pair of our design your own shoes on the red carpet this time.  What we did notice however  was  the metallic shoe trend.  Below "Glee" star Lea Michelle dons a side-slit Versace gown and metallic pointed toe pumps (another upcoming trend!) by Casadei.

Emily Blunt stunned in a jade chiffon one shoulder gown from Oscan de la Renta and was also on the metallic shoe bandwagon, wearing silver peep-toe Jimmy Choo's.  And while John Krasinski's shoes aren't notable, we kept him in the photo just because we love him!

Jennifer Carpenter looked casually beautiful in an above-the-knee Emilio Pucci dress and hair worn loose around her shoulders.  She got in on the metallic action with gold peep toe Jimmy Choo slingbacks (guess the stars agree that you can't really go wrong with Jimmy!)

We also love metallic shoes because they are both special and match with pretty much everything.  For some really unique silver pumps, check out our Shotgun pump that was featured in Redbook this month.  Or design your own shoes with your favorite shades of silver, gold, bronze, gunmetal, etc. and various accents to create your own perfect metallic shoes!

White is Right (shoes too!)

posted on Jan 16, 2012 4:47:43 PM - filled under Red Carpet Celebrity News from Dorian .

White is Right (shoes and all) at the Golden Globes

I'm sure some people tuned into the the Golden Globes to see if Ricky Gervais was going to top his performance from last year (he didn't) or to see if Brad Pitt was still walking with a can (he was).  Perhaps it was to see if George Clooney would walk the red carpet with Stacey Keibler (he did) or if Justin Timberlake would walk the red carpet with this betrothed Jessica Biel (he didn't).  Not us.   We tuned in for exactly five reasons -- to see the dresses, the diamonds, the clutches, the updos, and the fabulous shoes.

Awards season is a mixed bag for a shoe lover.  You know that there are $1500 Jimmy Choos underneath these gorgeous ball gowns, but all you get is a sliver of a peek with a quick step or high slit (Thanks Charlize).   But we squint, we stare and hopefully hopefully we get a great shot of the red carpet footwear.

The big takeaway trend from the Globes was the number of lovely ladies sporting blush or white.  And, interestingly enough, matched their white dresses with white shoes.  And you know what?  We didn't hate it.

Let's start with the reigning queen of Hollywood.... (Team Aniston forever, but whatevs...)

Angelina....

 Angelina

The severe and angled red detail on her dress, the bright red lip, the red clutch and red toe nails locked her in as the winner of the white dress contest.  She pulled off the dramatic eye and bright lip--- well... because she can pull off anything.  Inspiring.

Nicole Kidman wears white/ blush so often on the red carpet that we almost mistakenly posted *two* wrong pictures from Golden Globes of years past.  But when the shade of her hair (which is often times too light, thus washing her out completely) matches the beadwork on the dress, we can't argue with that.  Plus the dress fits her so amazingly perfect.  Love.

Nicole Kidman

Now, if I were going to marry Justin Timberlake imminently, I too would be wearing a white dress at every possible opportunity.  But, if I had Jessica Biel's body, I might not be so quick to cover it up.  Thumbs for wearing white for this bride-to-be, but the dress leaves a bit to be desired.  There's just... too much of it.   We give her one point for wearing a dress that shows off those killer shoes, but the hair is too dark, the dress too frumpy.  Not Love.

Jessica Biel

If there was one person in Hollywood I could have a face transplant with, it would be, undeniably, Charlize Theron.  The heart-shaped face, the high cheekbones, the perfect pout -- it's all pretty stellar.  Her blush dress and coordinating shoes look spectacular.  If I am to criticize (and let's be honest, that's why I'm here) I would like her to have taken a page from Angie's book -- let's see a bit of tone differentiation somewhere.  With the bronze skin, light hair, pale lip and underdone eyes it's all a bit too monochromatic.   But the shoes look great - it helps to have legs longer than all of Ryan Seacrest, but still, the ankle strap was a great choice and adds a bit of something going on.  Like.

Charlize Theron

So what's the takeaway here?  White shoes.  Don't be afraid of them.  They are not just for weddings and 80s Prom Queens anymore.  It's time to release the the post-Labor Day stigma.  Boldly go where we've been scared to go before.   Embrace!

Cobalt Blue - Resort '12

posted on Jan 9, 2012 9:51:27 AM - filled under Trend alert! from Ilissa howard

One of the most popular colors for Resort 2012 is cobalt blue (or as we like to say SATC blue - our homage to the famous blue Manolo's Carrie wore for her wedding to Big in the Sex and the City movie!) The above 4 pairs of shoes are just examples of milk & honey cobalt blue shoes we love, but as always you can design your own shoes! The first are one of our most popular wedding shoes, rosebud peep toe shoe in SATC silk.  The second is bright blue patent peep toe with bluebell suede double buckles. The next is another of our bridal bestsellers, the bow tied peep toe wedge in SATC silk. And the fourth is bright blue patent peep toe slingback with a platform.

Obviously, we think cobalt shoes are the best way to take advantage of the trend, but there are other ways if you insist! The below is an Asian inspired cobalt blue dress from Derek Lam's Resort 2012 collection. Beautiful and easy to wear.

Another option are these mid-rise cropped waxed skinny jeans by J Brand. They will take a bit more squeezing than the Derek Lam dress, but once you do, you'll look great!

If you prefer the real stuff (leather that is, as opposed to the "waxed" look above), give this Tibi pencil skirt a go.  We've never seen leather look this good!

And obviously you will need to accessorize (in addition to your cobalt blue shoes of course), so below are some great options. Marion sling bag in azure with silver metal detailing by Alexander Wang and the Big Time Statement necklace in blue and gold by Kate Spade.

So start dreaming of winter ending, beach getaways and Spring just around the corner with all of these great cobalt blue options. And get started designing and creating your own custom shoes now so they will be at your doorstep just in time!  Happy desgining.

Booted

You loved designing your own shoes, and now you'll love designing your own boots! Since we had such a great year being able to offer beautiful custom pumps, sandals and flats, we didn't want to leave you hanging in the winter months, it just didn't seem fair! So we are extremely excited that you can now design your own boots and create your own booties in our shoe builder.

The above are a few examples of boots you can design.  The first is beige and black printed snakeskin, 5 inch heel with .5 inch outside platform.  The trendy snake print will update any outfit in an instant!  The second is both classic and current. The combination of the camel and chocolate brown leathers lends a classic feel, while the shape, design and 5 inch heel with .5 inch inside platform are very current. The third is a 4 inch wedge in black suede with antique croc cap toe. The wedge makes them extra comfortable while still giving your legs the same lift and shape heels do.  They are on the subtle side the but the croc cap makes them special.

You can also design and create your own booties!  The above are a 5 inch wooden heel with .5 inch outside platform and black pony bootie with back zip.  They look great with both dresses and jeans.

We can't think of a better for these booties than cool, and you will look cool in them no matter what you wear. They are gunmetal leather with patent leather cap toe, studs and have a 5 inch heel with .5 inch inside platform.

These are just a few examples of what we have to offer and some of the great boots and booties you can create in our shoe builder.  So what are you waiting for, get designing your boots and/or booties now. Have fun!

Designer For A Day

Who knows what you want better than you? No one which is one of the many reason milk & honey exists today. We believe that women know what they want and should be able to get just that instead of having to settle for what is available. We also have faith in YOU as a designer, which is why we created a platform that allows you to design your own shoes. It's unlikely that the very creative woman who designed the above loafters (shown in merlot leather, raspberry suede and raspberry beret patent leather) would ever find anything remotely similar in a regular store which is a shame as the shoes are AMAZING!  Sophisticated, stylish and completely unique all at the same time.

You can customize your own shoes in literally millions of different ways. We love the pair above because they are beautiful shoes that everyone will notice, but the color palette (raincloud grey suede, bluebell suede, bright purple suede and dark silver metallic leather) allows them to be somewhat subtle at the same time and the t-strap gives them a sweet, retro look.

And how cool are these loafers? Classic style complete with chunky heel (though current with a very straight shape) combined with very contemporary materials (antique silver croc pressed leather, dalmatian pony and black leather.) They are perfect for both work and going out. Wear them with a conservative outfit to give a boring work look some punch or with your favorite jeans for a night on the town.

And while the spectator design isn't a new look, we've never seen them in a mix of colors, materials and embellishments like this before (nautical blue velvet with matching grosgrain ribbon and leaf green patent leather.) The other thing we love about these shoes is the colors and materials provide that they work year round.

So what are you waiting for? Test out your desgining chops today and start creating your own shoes now!

All That Glitters...

It's not the first time we've talked about glitter shoes, and it definitely won't be last as we love them and it seems you do too! While glitter looks great on its own, you really don't have to do much with it, there are plenty of things you can do to make the shoes you create even more unique. I mean, you are designing your own shoes!

The pair above are expecially creative using both peacock blue glitter in a peep toe with purple glitter stripe, piping and heel. Using two colors in the same family that coordinate (purple and blue) allows the shoes to be extra fun but not too crazy.

These blush glitter shoes are so pretty they almost look as if they were made for a dolll!  The slingbacks and bows lend a whimsical feel, but the sculpted wedge ensures they remain current. The other thing great about a sculpted wedge, besides the fact that they are insanely comfortable, is they make your feet look tiny (which is great for those of us with feet on the larger side :) )

And while you might traditionally think that glitter would be heels, it also look great on flats!  You can wear glitter flats for a formal occasion or just as easily throw them on with jeans and a t-shirt for a cute, daytime look.  No one will miss you in red glitter shoes!

Glitter also looks great when it's mixed with other materials like matte gold leather above.  Using both glitter and metallic leather together will make your glitter shoes look even more special, and people will know right away you didn't just buy them in the store, giving you a good excuse to explain your shoe designing talents.

And of course, there's nothing wrong with sticking with a more simple silver glitter peep toe shoe and just dressing them up a bit with big, silver glitter bows! Go on, get your glitter on and start designing your own shoes now!

Party(Like It's 1999)Shoes!

Black Peep Toe Pumps with Silver Glitter Heel

Now that the presents are open and everyone is (hopefully) stuffed with good holiday food, the countdown to 2012 has officially begun!

Regardless of what your plans are for New Year's Eve, you will need some great party shoes to add a festive feel.  Our favorites for this year are metallics and glitter.  All colors are great, but we are really loving silver and gold at the moment. All shades (matte gold, mirror gold, sterling silver, pewter, etc.) are fairly neutral so they really match everything and dress up even the simplest of outfits.

Silver glitter pumps with glitter bows are perfect for any sort of party, wedding, etc. They will match most things, and what's really great about shoes like this is if put them on even with a simple black dress, it looks like you are wearing something special.

Silver Glitter Peep Toe Pumps with Bow

These gold peep toe mary jane pumps are extremely versatle. Great with a nice dress or even throw them on with jeans and a t-shirt to dress up a casual look. We weren't sure about the combo when a very creative customer designed her own shoes, but turns out to be a really great look!

Gold Peep Toe Mary Jane Pumps

Strappier shoes work year round at night for special occasions but also during the day in Spring and Summer with even a casual dress.  We love the mix of different shades of gold and silver used on these two pairs of shoes, both of which can be designed by you in our shoe builder.

Charcoal Gray Heeled Sandals Gold T-Strap Sandals

We at milk & honey hope 2012 brings all of you lots of happiness, joy and fun partys (for which you will need great shoes.) So don't hesitate, design your own shoes now so you'll be ready for the year of fun ahead.

In the Nick of Time!

It's officially that time of year. Hanukkah is in full swing, Christmas eve is just around the corner, everyone is in a good mood and ready to tuck into some good food and drink with family and friends.

As you cross the final items off your to do list and get ready to settle into the fun, there are likely to be a few of you who realize you have a bit too much left over wrapping paper and discover you forgot to buy a present or two. Well, the good news is milk & honey gift certificates are available and can be delivered to your inbox in a matter of moments. So if you have some last minute shopping to do, why not spoil her with a pair of luxurious shoes that she can design herself? No better present and nothing easier for you!

Happy holidays to everyone, enjoy!  xo

Still haven't thought of the perfect gift for your friend, girlfriend, mom, sister, assistant or any other woman in your life? Well maybe we haven't given you enough hints. How about a gift card that allows her to design her own shoes? Choosing a present she will really enjoy isn't easy, we know that.  How many times have you gotten so close? It really seemed as if she would love it!  But really not so much as she never seems to wear, use, or even look at it?

Now you can get her something thoughtful and special over which she is guaranteed to swoon.  A milk & honey gift card allows her to choose from an array of trendy and classic styles and design elements, buttery soft leathers, luxuriously exotic snakeskin, pressed croc and pony, swarovski crystals and more to create her perfect custom made shoes. Oh, and have we mentioned that boots and booties are now ready to be customized in our shoe builder :) ?

Gift cards are available in a wide range of prices so you can contribute as much as you like to giving her perfect shoes -- a gift she will never forget. So, what are you waiting for? Get your milk & honey gift card now!

About a Shoe

posted on Nov 29, 2011 4:58:53 AM - filled under The Practical Side of Things from Ilissa howard

A beautiful shoe isn't an easy thing to create, and we aren't talking about desinging your own shoes for once! We are referring to the actual construction of a shoe.  As you can see from the picture, there are many parts of the shoe to consider for a great fit. When we created our milk & honey lasts (the mold the shoe is created around) we paid close attention to all of these details. We made numerous lasts and shoes based on those lasts, had many people try on the shoes, took all of their feedback into accunt, adjusted the lasts, then went through the process again with new shoes untill we came up with a great shape and fit. Two of most important elements we noticed are the ball girth (different from width with is the bottom of the shoe) for comfort and throat opening for style.

Then we developed great shaped skinny heels from 1.5 inches to 5 inches, chunky heels in 2 inches to 4 inches and wedges in 1 inch to 4 inches. The next step was to create platforms to match the lasts. After lots of back and forth to get all of this just so, we were set with modern shaped lasts, heels and platforms unique to milk & honey!

After that, we spent months and months searching for the highest quality materials (leather, patent, suede, snakeskin, etc.) in a variety of colors (a process that actually never stops so we can continue to bring you new colors and materials.) We also experimented with foam inserts to get just the right amount of cushioning in the shoes to make them super comfortable while maintaing the correct fit.

None of this was easy but all of it was completely worth it to be able to provide you with the most modern shaped, high quality shoes possible. We are so happy that so many of you love designing your own shoes and are enjoying our shoes so much!
